ASEAN – Pakistan boost ties for mutual benefit

ASEAN Heads of Missions in Pakistan Call on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister

Islamabad : ASEAN Heads of Missions in Pakistan paid a courtesy call on Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest between ASEAN and Pakistan were discussed, with a focus on strengthening cooperation across a wide spectrum of fields including trade, investment, education, health, and tourism.

Ambassador Emmanuel R. Fernandez joined fellow ASEAN Heads of Mission in separate engagements with Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, ahead of the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting.

Representing Malaysia, Mohammad Syafik Firdaus, Deputy Head of Mission, underscored the importance of robust and multidimensional relations between ASEAN and Pakistan. He emphasized that enhanced collaboration would bring mutual benefit to both sides and contribute positively to regional peace and prosperity.

DHM, Syafik also apprised the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the upcoming 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 8 to 11 July 2025, under the ASEAN Political-Security Community pillar. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to advancing regional diplomatic engagement and cooperation within ASEAN and beyond.

Additionally, Mr. Syafik highlighted the significance of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Pakistan, expressing Malaysia’s interest in deepening ties across various sectors. He further conveyed that the Government of Malaysia is honoured to welcome His Excellency Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, and his accompanying delegation during their forthcoming official visit to Malaysia.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening ASEAN-Pakistan cooperation and enhancing bilateral relations for the collective benefit of their people.
