UNFPA and HSA to boost newborn health through quality midwifery education

BS Midwifery Faculty Development Program: A Collaborative Effort to Advance Midwifery Education in Pakistan

Islamabad : The BS Midwifery Faculty Development Program, held from 23–27 June, is a collaborative initiative between the Health Services Academy (HSA) and UNFPA Pakistan, aimed at strengthening midwifery education across the country.
The program brought together 26 midwifery faculty members from diverse regions of Pakistan for an intensive training focused on enhancing teaching methodologies, leadership skills, and academic competencies.


A key objective of this initiative is to expand and standardize the BS Midwifery program nationwide, ensuring the development of a competent and skilled midwifery workforce to meet the growing healthcare needs of the country.
The opening session featured keynote addresses from:

  • Dr. Mariyam Sarfraz, Associate Professor and Dean, Nursing and Midwifery, HSA
  • Dr. Rubina Anwar, Assistant Country Representative, UNFPA Pakistan
  • Dr. Naila Yasmeen, Program Analyst, SRH/Midwifery, UNFPA
    This joint endeavor underscores the shared commitment of HSA and UNFPA to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes in Pakistan through high-quality midwifery education.
