Vietnam, Pakistan Parliamentary Group holds key role in Pakistan’s ASEAN policy

Ambassador of Vietnam Meets with Parliamentary Secretary to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Islamabad: The Ministry of Human Rights warmly welcomed H.E. Pham Anh Tuan, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Pakistan, who visited Ms. Saba Sadiq, Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights and Convener of the Pakistan–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the Ministry of Human Rights. He was accompanied by Mr. Truong Van Thang, First Secretary at the Embassy of Vietnam in Islamabad.
The Ministry extended heartfelt congratulations on the establishment of the Vietnam–Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, recognizing it as a meaningful step in strengthening bilateral relations through inter-parliamentary dialogue. Ms. Saba Sadiq highlighted that the Group, comprising members from various political parties including PML-N and PPP, reflects Pakistan’s commitment to bipartisan diplomacy and regional engagement.
She emphasized the Group’s role in creating new pathways for cooperation in areas such as human rights advocacy, education, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. It also provides a forum to build legislative understanding and share parliamentary practices that promote inclusive development and democratic values.
The Vietnam–Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group holds strategic significance in Pakistan’s foreign policy towards the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Vietnam, as a leading ASEAN member, offers a vital link for Pakistan to expand its diplomatic and economic footprint in Southeast Asia. Strengthening such partnerships supports Pakistan’s long-term vision of enhanced regional integration, economic connectivity, and soft diplomacy.

During the interaction, key developments in Pakistan’s economic trajectory were also discussed. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif continues to prioritize international cooperation to ensure sustainable growth, economic resilience, and constructive regional alliances.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Saba Sadiq stated: “This Friendship Group is more than a symbolic gesture, it is a bridge of cooperation between our parliaments and peoples. Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen mutual trust, legislative collaboration, and broaden our engagement with Vietnam and the wider ASEAN community.”
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and an affirmation of Pakistan and Vietnam’s shared commitment to advancing dialogue and development through sustained partnership.
