
Islamabad: – NIMA Islamabad organized an international seminar to mark World Environment Day under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.” The event brought together experts, policymakers, and environmentalists to raise awareness and explore solutions to the growing problem of plastic pollution, affecting the marine environments.
Lt. Gen Mohammad Afzal, as a Chief Guest, emphasized eradicating plastic pollution and urged actions through the “5Rs” approach. Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam Advisor to Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s commitment through the National Plastic Action Plan. Both praised NIMA’s efforts.
A galaxy of prominent speakers shared their views. including Amb. Dr. Muhammad Nafeez Zakaria; ED COMSATS, Mr. Zulfiqar Younas/ Mr. Naeem Ashraf Raja from MoCC&EC, Dr. Rabia Nousheen; Deputy Director EPA Punjab, Ms. Prakriti Kashyap from SACEP Sri Lanka, Ms. Zainab Naeem from SDPI, Mr. Irfan Yousuf; Consultant World Bank and CEO MKAI Climate Consultancy, and Dr. Salma Hamza from Bahria University.

On the occasion, NIMA also commissioned its dedicated Centre; Maritime Environment and Climate Change Centre (MEC3) with the mandate to focus on research, policy, and awareness on ocean health and climate issues including policy.
The event concluded with the signing of MoU between NIMA and COMSATS, reinforcing their commitment to collaborative environmental research and innovation. President NIMA thanked participants and reaffirmed NIMA’s focus to rebuilding a resilient Blue Economy for Pakistan.
